Within the whole makeup industry, many different phases have been in and out of fashion. However one that has stuck in a lot of peoples everyday makeup routine and still a must have is the face primer. Which shouldn’t be confused with moisturiser because that softens skin, primers prepare the skin for tinted moisturiser or foundation. This is such a well loved product because it improves coverage and lengthens the amount of time the cosmetic lasts on the face. To see if this was true I decided to put two of my favourite primers to the ultimate test both containing different formulas.
Lets begin with one that I’ve been using for almost a year now and has been a lifesaver in the days I’ve had to rush my makeup routine. Pretty Face Primer is created for a flawless finish and it does exactly that. However I’m still not keen on the silicone formula because I tend to find it stays in one spot instead of warming into the skin. But when I do get the right balance of product this is great to help make the foundation not slide off of my face throughout the day and reduces the oils. If you’re a beginner in the makeup world and looking for a affordable, versatile primer then this is the one for you at only £5 for a 30ml tube.
If you’re someone like me who prefers the feel of lotion based primers in the morning instead of a silicone one then this Freedom ProStudio Anti-Shine Base Lotion (that was a mouthful!) is for you. Being a professional lotion it’s created to instantly mattify, hydrate, improve texture and prime the skin for all control. The greasier elements in cream face primers means that they’re more suitable for drier skin types or to be used in winter. This is a bit of a pricey purchase at £8 in Superdrug but it is totally worth it because once on it instantly fades into the skin for easy protection throughout the day.
At the end of the day, if you’re beginning to dive into makeup or even someone who’s been a big fan of it and wondering why your makeup isn’t lasting as long as it says on the packaging then it’s most likely because you are not using a primer or even using it correctly. They come in so many different types so if you don’t like the sound of silicone or lotion based ones coming in contact with your face then don’t worry because there are so many different ones on the market right now! Just takes patience and the right eye.
